The Way of Jesus
The Way of Jesus
The term “Christianity” has picked up a lot of baggage over the years, but to us, being a Christian simply means Having a relationship with Jesus.
Practical Jesus
(John 14:12) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”
‘I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ Jesus answers our innermost need to know the true and living God.
- A living relationship with the Living God is truly a ‘Transforming Friendship.’
- Jesus demonstrated a life of total integrity; his behavior aligned with his teaching and his teaching aligned with his claims about who he was.
- Jesus changed our way of looking at others, ‘You have heard it said, Love your friends and hate your enemies. I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.’
- Jesus invites you and I to follow him.
Seven Markers provide a simple language to describe our journey with Jesus. They are:
- simple,
- memorable,
- transferable, and most of all,
- practical to work with everyday life
The Way of Jesus: Anchors
Here are several sayings we would encourage you to commit to memory to keep you rooted in the same faith that has guided followers of Jesus through the centuries.
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried*
The third day he rose again from the dead
He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting
Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven:
May your holy name be honored;
your Kingdom come;
your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need.
Forgive us the wrongs we have done,
as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.
Keep us from yielding to temptation and deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, Forever and ever. Amen
Walking in the Light
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus,
his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:7-9)
His Teaching
… you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. (2 Tim 3:15-17)
His Love
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matt 22:37-40)
His Disciplers
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. (2 Tim 2:2)
A Blessing
The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’ (Num 6:24-26) [/cm
May you have joy in your journey of life… and may the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. Forever and ever Amen
